What is Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream?

Canesten Clotrimazole Cream 1% is an antifungal medication used to treat infections such as:

  • ringworm
  • athlete’s foot
  • nappy rash
  • fungal sweat rash
  • fungal nail infection
  • thrush

The cream helps to ease symptoms such as itching and irritation and takes around seven days to work. It can be used by both children and adults.

How it works

Canesten Clotrimazole Cream 1% works by causing holes to appear in the cell membrane of the fungus or yeast that has caused the infection. This causes the contents of the cell membrane to leak out, destroy the fungus and treat the infection.

Your itching and irritation should begin to ease after a few days of use; however, redness and scaling may take longer to resolve.

How to apply Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream

Please read the included leaflet carefully before using this product. You should always use Clotrimazole Cream 1% as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has instructed you to.

  1. You should apply a thin layer of Canesten Clotrimazole Cream to the affected area and rub it in gently two to three times a day.
  2. You will need to continue treating the affected area for between one to four weeks, though the total length of time you’ll need to use clotrimazole cream 1% for depends on the type of infection you have.
  3. Importantly, you should keep using the cream for two weeks after your symptoms have gone to prevent the infection from coming back.

If you are applying the cream to your feet, make sure they are washed and dried thoroughly before application. In addition, you should always wash your hands after treating the infection to stop it from spreading.
