Syncrodin tablets are a short-term treatment for jet lag in adults.

Each tablet contains 3mg of melatonin, a hormone naturally produced by the body to regulate sleep cycles. Travelling across time zones can disturb this rhythm, and Syncrodin helps restore balance by resetting your internal body clock.

The severity of jet lag symptoms depends on how many time zones are crossed. Syncrodin works to reduce fatigue, improve sleep quality, and help you adapt more quickly to your new time zone.

Directions

Always take Syncrodin tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.

  1. Take the first dose at your usual bedtime upon arrival at your destination.
  2. Swallow whole with water or another non-alcoholic drink such as milk or fruit juice.
  3. Continue taking it each night at your usual bedtime for up to 5 days.
  4. Do not take the tablets before 20:00 or after 04:00.

The recommended adult dose is 1 tablet daily for up to 5 days. If 1 tablet is not effective, 2 tablets may be taken together.

Avoid food for 2 hours before and 2 hours after taking Syncrodin.

This treatment can be used for up to 16 periods per year.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Syncrodin tablets can cause side effects, though not everyone gets them. Common side effects include:

  • headache
  • drowsiness

If you experience any side effects not listed in the leaflet, report them through the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you develop signs of a severe allergic reaction such as facial or throat swelling, rash, breathing difficulties, or loss of consciousness.

Stop taking Syncrodin and contact your doctor immediately if you notice:

  • chest pain
  • unexplained bruising or bleeding
  • disorientation or fainting
  • blurred vision or visual changes
  • pounding heartbeat
  • blood in your urine

Warnings

Syncrodin is not suitable for anyone under 18 years old.

Do not take Syncrodin if you are allergic to melatonin or any listed ingredients.

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are a smoker or have:

  • epilepsy
  • an autoimmune disorder
  • diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance
  • liver or kidney impairment

Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine. Alcohol can worsen jet lag symptoms and interfere with melatonin’s effectiveness.

Syncrodin may cause drowsiness or reduced alertness for several hours. Do not drive or operate machinery until you feel fully alert.

Using or taking other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. Syncrodin can interact with:

  • Fluvoxamine (for depression or OCD)
  • Psoralens (for psoriasis)
  • Cimetidine (for stomach ulcers)
  • Oestrogens (in contraceptives or HRT)
  • Quinolones or rifampicin (antibiotics)
  • Carbamazepine (for epilepsy)
  • Benzodiazepines or similar sleep aids (e.g. temazepam, zolpidem, zopiclone)

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Do not use Syncrodin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Melatonin crosses the placenta and is excreted in breast milk. Women of childbearing potential should use contraception while taking this medicine.

Fertility risks

Not recommended for people trying to conceive, as there is limited data on how melatonin affects fertility in men and women.
